Lieutenant Colonel William J. Doran III

Lt Col William J. Doran III currently serves as the Operations Division Chief for the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Responsibilities include managing the homeland security program, running the State Emergency Operations Center during times of state emergencies, and acting as liaison to provide assistance to Louisiana Parishes during emergency operations.
Lt Col Doran was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Catholic High School of Baton Rouge, and Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. He received his commission from the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville TN, in September of 1987. He is a graduate of the USAF Logistics Plans, Contingency Wartime Planners and Aircraft Maintenance Officer Courses; Squadron Officer School; the Air Command and Staff College; the Aircraft Mishap Investigation Course; and the Air War College. In addition he has received extensive training in Emergency Management through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
His assignments have included the following: Personnel Officer; Chief of Logistics Plans and Programs; Aircraft Maintenance Officer; Squadron Commander and Joint Force Headquarters Staff Officer.
Decorations include the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Louisiana War Cross. He has deployed three times to Southwest Asia for Operations Provide Comfort and Northern Watch to enforce the No-fly zone over Northern Iraq. On the home-front, he has participated in Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Liberty Shield. He also participated in standing up home alert operations on September 11th, 2001 launching the first air combat sorties ever logged over Louisiana. During his career, he has deployed to Australia, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Norway and Turkey.
He is a member of numerous civic and professional organizations to include The National Guard Association of the U.S. and the National Guard Association of Louisiana.
He is married to the former Teresa Marie Patorno of New Orleans, Louisiana. They have three children, William, Mary and Katherine.
