James W. Micik

Jim Micik is a Food Safety & Quality Assurance specialist with over 30 years of diverse international food industry experience.  Jim has conducted international food industry consulting providing comprehensive Food Safety/Quality/Security Assessments, Product Safety Systems Development as well as Technical Assistance for resolving GMP, Quality, Food Safety, Laboratory, Consumer Affairs, Customer, Co-Packer and Regulatory issues.

As a graduate of Oregon State University, Jim holds dual BS degrees in Food Science and Technology and Microbiology.  He completed his Masters in Business Administration at National University in San Diego with an emphasis in Quantitative Analysis.  He is a National Food Processors Association Trained NFPA-SAFE Auditor.  Jim has also had numerous certification and training courses including HACCP, Food Safety, Practical Antiterrorism for the Food Industry, NFPA/FDA Better Process Control School, HTST Pasteurization, Food Microbiology & Food Chemistry, Lean Manufacturing, TQM, etc.

Among other responsibilities Jim has held Quality Assurance Director positions for such Companies as Advance Foods, Hudson Foods, Stouffer Foods (Nestle USA) and Van Camp Seafood Company (Ralston Purina Company).

He also has extensive plant QA experience, supplier auditing, and facility/co-packer start up experience and supplier specification development experience in such areas as seafood, red meat, poultry, Restaurant/Deli, egg products, dry extruded/canned/semi-moist pet food products, container manufacturing, frozen/fresh/canned items, retail/food service for Ready-to-Eat and Ready-to-Cook products.

Most recently with J & P Enterprises Jim has been working both domestically and internationally with such firms as Consumer Testing Laboratories, Rare Hospitality (LongHorn Steak House, Bugaboo Creek Streak House), Wal-Mart, Sam’s, Bumble Bee Seafood Company (ConAgra Inc.), Wayne Farms (Continental Grain), Honey Suckle White (Cargill Inc.) and National Pingtung University of Science & Technology Taiwan, Republic of China.  Jim’s regulatory experience includes extensive interaction with FDA, USDA (AMS/FSIS), NMFS as well as EPA, state/local and international agencies.

 Jim is a Professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and International Association for Food Protection.  He has represented his respective Company with such trade organizations as the National Food Processors Association (NFPA), American Frozen Foods Institute (AFFI), National Chicken Council (NCC) and Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA).

 Jim’s international and overseas experience includes work in Ecuador, American Samoa, Palau, Guam, Puerto Rico, Canada, Spain, Thailand, Indonesia, Guatemala, Japan and Taiwan.
