J.M. Drake, PE, CSP, CQE


J.M. is a Registered Professional Engineer in mechanical engineering.  He is currently a Systems Engineer in the Systems Engineering and Analysis Division of the U.S. Dept of Energy’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve.    He is a Federal Quality Examiner serving in both the President’s Quality Award Program in 2000, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Performance Excellence Award Program in 1998 and 1999. He served as the President of the Louisiana Engineering Society from 2002-03  and the Chairman of the Leadership council of the New Orleans Federal Performance Excellence Council from 2002-04.  He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).  He has served as  the President of the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair  from 1996 to 1999 and a member of the Regional Science Bowl planning team from 2001-05. He worked at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility on the Space Shuttle External Tanks from 1982 to 1992.  J. M. was an officer in U.S. Army from 1971 to 1976. His interests include home computers, digital photography, tennis, and travel.  He is married. He and his wife, Marlane live in New Orleans LA.

U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserves- Energy Security for America

Summary of Presentation: The presentation will provide an overview and current status to the U.S.'s Strategic Petroleum Reserves with emphasis on the need for the reserve, how the crude oil reserves are stored and distributed to industry, a discussion of solution mining and cavern development technology used and special initiatives currently underway at the Project Management Office.
